Academic Year

The school year begins in April and ends in March.

Curriculum

The medium of instruction is English however emphasis is also given to Hindi.

Curriculum consists of English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Civics, Geography, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Character formation and development of spiritual and moral values are imparted regularly through the teaching of Moral Science.

Physical and Health Education, Socially Useful Productive Work and Community Service form part of the curriculum.

Computer Science is also included in the curriculum.

Activities like Yoga, Music, Art and Craft, Sports and Dance are included in the curriculum.

Admission

Admission is restricted by certain regulations and by conditions of age, mental attitude, ability and conduct of the candidate.

The Principal reserves the right and discretion to admit or not admit any student without assigning any reason. The decision shall be final.

Every candidate for admission must be introduced by the parents or guardian who will be responsible for studies, discipline and payment of fees.

Admission forms should be duly filled and signed by the parents and supported by all relevant documents required by the school.

The correct name and date of birth should be entered at the time of admission. No changes will be made after entry into the school register.

If a child is admitted during the academic term, all applicable fees including development fees, annual fees and caution money must be paid.

Withdrawal

No School Leaving Certificate will be issued unless applied for in writing by the parent or guardian one month in advance or after payment of one month's fee in lieu of notice.

The Principal reserves the right to dismiss a student or suspend him/her for a certain period of time if the conduct of the student is against the good moral tone of the school.

Irregular attendance, habitual idleness, unexplained absence for more than one month, disobedience, bad conduct inside or outside school, repeated misbehavior towards members of the school family and repeated failures in examinations may justify dismissal or suspension.

If any student or parent/guardian misbehaves with the Principal or staff of the school, the student may be expelled without notice.

Regular attendance for class is an important factor in good education.

Students should not absent themselves from class without sufficient reason and prior permission.

Half-day leave will generally not be granted. Once students come to school, they are expected to attend the entire day except in emergencies.

A leave note from parents must be submitted for any absence and the reason should be clearly stated in the Leave Record section of the handbook.

Students absent continuously for five days must meet the Principal before attending classes again along with a parent's letter.

In case of serious illness or absence exceeding five days, the Principal must be informed in writing and a doctor's certificate must be produced.

The Principal may grant a maximum of fifteen days leave. An additional fifteen days may be granted on production of a valid medical certificate.

In case of sickness, emergency, quarantine or similar situations, the school office should be contacted immediately.

The school conducts regular examinations so that teachers and parents can assess the student's understanding and academic progress.

Students should not absent themselves from any examination except for valid health reasons supported by a medical certificate.

Any student caught copying during an examination will have the answer paper confiscated and no marks will be awarded.

Students absent from examinations or tests will generally not be re-examined.

Absence of more than thirty days without permission during an academic year may make a student ineligible for promotion.

Promotion from one standard to another is based on the student's overall performance throughout the academic year and according to CISCE Board regulations.

Results once declared shall be treated as final.

Refinement of manners, habits of obedience, orderliness, neatness in person and dress and punctuality are required at all times.

Cleanliness is a prerequisite of orderliness. Classrooms, corridors and the entire campus should reflect the values and standards of the school.

Students are expected to speak only in English once they enter the school campus except during language classes.

An atmosphere of silence and discipline must be maintained in classrooms, staff rooms and offices during working hours.

The school diary issued at the beginning of the year must be kept neat and brought to school every day.

Students are not permitted to write anything in the diary except in the calendar section, homework records and examination schedules.

The diary is an important school document and should be preserved carefully throughout the academic year.

The school will not be responsible for accidents, misconduct or incidents occurring outside the school premises.

Students may not bring novels, magazines, newspapers, comics or other books without prior permission from the Principal.

Possession of obscene materials, inappropriate books, letters or pictures may lead to immediate dismissal.

Mobile phones, transistors, firecrackers, weapons, explosives and other dangerous materials are strictly prohibited.

Students are not permitted to drive vehicles to school.

No student may leave the school premises during school hours or lunch break without permission from the Principal.

A gate pass must be obtained in case of emergency.

Students are responsible for the safe custody of their belongings and are encouraged to label personal items.

Wearing gold ornaments or bringing valuable articles to school is discouraged. The school will not be responsible for any loss.

Any damage caused to school property must be compensated. Writing, scratching or carving on furniture and walls will be severely penalized.

No collection of funds may be undertaken without prior permission from the Principal.

Outings, picnics and similar activities may not be planned without informing and obtaining approval from the Principal.

On birthdays, Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep students may wear a simple modest dress and distribute sweets.

Students are requested not to present personal gifts to staff members.

Parents are requested to fill in the Name, Standard and Section correctly on the Fee Book in block letters.

Fees are to be deposited in Punjab National Bank, Argora Colony, Ranchi, preferably through online mode or cheque in favour of:

Online payment facilities are available and parents are encouraged to make payments online whenever possible.

Monthly fees should be paid on or before the 15th of the current month.

In April, parents must pay annual fees and other applicable charges along with the monthly fees.

By 15th February, fees for both February and March must be cleared.

A late fee of Rs. 50 per month will be charged if fees are not deposited within the current month.

Parents facing difficulties in fee payment must inform the school management in writing.

If a cheque is dishonoured, a penalty of Rs. 500 will be charged.

If annual fees are not paid by the end of June, a one-time fine of Rs. 100 will be charged until October.

Beyond October, the one-time fine increases to Rs. 250.

No reduction in fees will be granted for holidays or partial attendance.

All fees must be paid before examinations. Failure to do so may prevent students from appearing in examinations.

Parents must preserve the Fee Book until the end of the academic year and produce it whenever required.

Replacement of a lost or damaged Fee Book will be made upon payment of Rs. 50.

Parents and guardians are expected to co-operate with the school by enforcing regularity, discipline and helping children prepare their lessons.

Parents should supervise home study, regularly check school calendars, sign report cards and return them promptly to school.

Co-curricular activities are compulsory. Parents are requested to provide the required materials whenever needed.

Critical remarks about teachers should be avoided in the presence of children. Any concerns should be discussed directly with the Principal.

Daily reports and messages from the school are communicated through the student handbook and should be acknowledged.

Parents are strongly encouraged to attend all Parent-Teacher Meetings and personally collect report cards.

Parents are not allowed to meet students or teachers during class hours except through prior appointment.

Parents should immediately notify the school office of any changes in address, email address or mobile number.

Suggestions or remarks should be submitted to the Principal in writing.

Parents of younger children should provide an extra set of clothes to the class teacher at the beginning of the year.

Picnics and excursions form an important part of learning and class activities.

They help students develop friendship, knowledge, curiosity and social relationships.

Class teachers are responsible for organizing the complete programme including destination, dates and schedules.

Excursions should not be scheduled close to examinations and must receive prior approval from the Principal.

Complete participant lists, itineraries and schedules must be submitted in advance.

School authorities, management and staff shall not be held responsible for accidents or mishaps during picnics and excursions.

To promote discipline, leadership, healthy competition and school spirit, the school follows a House System.

Students are divided into four houses distinguished by different colours in their uniforms.

The House System encourages excellence in academics, sports, discipline and leadership.

Captains and Vice-Captains lead their houses under the guidance of House Masters and House Mistresses.

The system helps foster team spirit, responsibility, loyalty and devotion towards the school.

  1. All students of Classes IV to X may be issued books from the library.
  2. Strict silence should be observed in the library at all times.
  3. Students who keep books longer than the permitted period will be fined Rs. 10 per day.
  4. Books in the reference section may not be taken out of the library.
  5. Never write in library books or tear any page. Students must take proper care of books.
  6. Any damage noticed in a book should be reported to the librarian before borrowing.
  7. Each pupil may borrow one book at a time. Teachers may borrow two books at a time and retain them for seven days.
  8. Periodicals, dictionaries and costly reference books shall not be issued.
  9. Issue of books may be suspended at any time by order of the Principal.
  10. All books should be properly covered.
  11. All borrowed books must be returned two weeks before terminal and final examinations.

  3. Ensure that House Captains, Vice-Captains and School Prefects perform their duties responsibly.
  4. Maintain discipline during morning assembly, functions and school gatherings.
  5. Display loyalty and exemplary behaviour both inside and outside the school premises.
  6. Lead fellow students positively without becoming dictatorial.

Captains, Vice-Captains and Class Monitors should strive to uphold discipline, leadership and teamwork throughout the school.

  2. Encourage students to participate actively in house competitions and activities.
  3. Maintain and promote house spirit and motto.
  4. Motivate students to perform their best in academics, sports and co-curricular activities.
  5. Periodically evaluate discipline and activities with the assistance of House Masters and House Mistresses.
  6. Promote healthy and respectful relationships among students.
  7. Submit reports of activities and responsibilities to House Masters, House Mistresses and the Principal.
  8. Assist in maintaining discipline during assemblies, functions and gatherings.
  9. Act promptly according to school requirements after consulting and receiving guidance from the Principal.
  10. Remain well-behaved and set an example for other students.
  11. Perform duties responsibly, fairly and impartially.
  12. Be regular and punctual at all times.
  13. Display courtesy, politeness and respect towards everyone.
  1. Students should arrive at school fifteen minutes before school time. Parents/guardians of students who regularly report after the assembly bell may be called to the school.
  2. Students of Fr. Agnel School should behave in a gentlemanly manner on the way to and from school. The school is judged by their conduct.
  3. Shouting, whistling and running about are not permitted within the school building.
  4. English shall be spoken at all times within the school premises.
  5. Students should take good care of their books and personal belongings. Each article should be marked with the student's name, admission number and class.
  6. Students are expected to bring their tiffin for the noon recess.
  7. Students may not offer presents to teachers except under circumstances approved by the Principal.
  8. Parents and guardians are not allowed to meet their children, visit teachers or enter the school verandah during school hours without permission.
  9. Attendants bringing children to school should be respectably dressed and leave the school premises immediately after dropping them.
  10. Homework should be completed neatly and every day's work should be properly dated.
  11. Students are expected to participate actively in all co-curricular activities.
  12. Consumption of gutka, pan, chewing gum, alcohol, drugs and smoking is strictly forbidden in and around the school premises.

  9. To firmly say "No" whenever tempted or encouraged to do something wrong.
  10. To respect your own property as well as the property of your school and others.
  • Never omit a lesson or homework assigned by your teachers.
  • Always revise the work done in class and clarify any doubts immediately.
  • If memory work is assigned, learn it overnight and revise it again in the morning.
  • At the end of each week, review everything learned during the week.
  • Make a daily study timetable and follow it regularly.
  • Develop the habit of regular work and disciplined study.
  • Realize the value of time and do not wait until examinations approach before studying.
  • Do not waste your God-given talents through lack of effort and application.
  • Remember that the key to success is regular, sincere and consistent work.

The Principal/Manager is at liberty to alter, add to or repeal any regulation contained in this handbook without assigning any reason whenever considered necessary in the best interest of the school.

As members of the school community, students are expected to use social media responsibly, respectfully and in a manner that reflects the values of the school.
